The Ancient Ones" (2023) is a video installation showcasing ancient trees of the Sarawat Mountains, some over 1,400 years old. The project originated from research into the 2020 Jabal Ghulamah wildfire, which burned for nine days before being extinguished by rain. Amidst the destruction, the ancient Al’Reqa’ah tree survived, becoming a symbol of the need to protect these vital natural treasures. In 2021, a meeting under Al’Reqa’ah, led by the Asir Region Governor, initiated a plan to identify and protect over 230 ancient trees. The film provides a visual and auditory experience of these trees and the mountain communities, exploring themes of human impact, climate change, biodiversity loss, and the future of the Earth.
